BHM 365: Celebrating Black history, present and future

Black History Month was created in 1987 by Ghanaian-born Akyaaba Addai Sebo, to celebrate the history, achievements and contributions of Black British people. It is believed that Sebo chose October to further deepen connection with the Black diaspora’s African roots.

This October we celebrate the history, achievements and contributions of Black Brits with our BHM 365 programme of dance, art installations, spoken word, theatre, workshops, walking trails, cinema and more:

1 – 30 OCT
ELSA JAMES’ ‘ODE TO DAVID LAMMY MP’
Art installation inspired by the Tottenham MP in 2018, responding to the Windrush scandal.

1 – 31 OCT
WINDRUSH ELDERS EXHIBITION
Striking portraits of those who have paved the way for the next generations in Britain.

5 OCT
BLACK LENS – WAX PRINT (PG)
Director Aiwan Obinyan takes us around the world in search of African wax prints.
