The Last Tree

Travel from Lincolnshire to London to Lagos in this profoundly moving drama
This critically acclaimed drama by Shola Amoo is a brilliant addition to the Black British film canon, and explores some of the challenges young people from the African diaspora face when trying to understand themselves and find a place to call home.
Described by Mark Kermode as a ‘tender tale of an uprooted childhood’ we see Femi taken from his foster home in the Lincolnshire countryside to inner London when his mother reclaims him. Caught between mothers and backgrounds, we see Femi grow into himself torn and confused, facing a choice about what kind of man he wants to be in modern Britain.
The Last Tree premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2019 and received critical acclaim. Sam Adewunmi (Femi) won Most Promising Newcomer at the 2019 British Independent Film Awards, and Shola Amoo won Best Screenplay at the Writers’ Guild Awards 2020.
