WINDRUSH 75 | SCHOOLS DAY TAKEOVER
Tuesday 20th & Thursday 22nd June 2023
BGAC supports more than 300 local pupils with Windrush celebrations!
As part of this year’s Windrush 75 celebrations BGAC have been working with four local schools to deliver a series of workshops in the run up to the festival across four weeks.
This will culminate in two Windrush Schools Day events for more than 300 pupils, giving them a chance to perform their work on the BGAC stage in front of their peers and pupils from the other schools in the project.
This year the Bernie Grant Arts Centre has partnered with local charity Arts Bridge to welcome more than 180 primary school children into our venue.
On Tuesday 20th June BGAC will host The Chestnut Primary school, facilitating a range of artistic workshops with a focus on uniting the Windrush elderly community with local children through the arts. Windrush workshops will explore and commemorate the dreams, resilience and legacy of the Windrush Generation.
We are also celebrating the 75th Windrush Anniversary by welcoming more than 120 local secondary school children on Thursday 22nd June (Windrush Day) for their own bespoke festival. Across four weeks they have paired up with artists: Kareem Parkins-Brown, Haley Jackson and Kobi Ayensuo to devise a performance inspired by ‘You Called… And We Came’.
Supported by Haringey Council, Arts Bridge Charity, Parkview, Duke’s Aldridge and Haringey Learning Partnership.
