Artistic Director
Cafe Manager

Artistic Director

In October 2017, the Bernie Grant Arts Centre celebrated its tenth anniversary and is now looking forward to the next ten years as a key player in London’s diverse cultural landscape.

Over the last two years under the leadership of our Interim Chief Executive and Artistic Director, Pete Courtie, the Centre has continued to grow from strength to strength.

We’re incredibly proud of the diverse programme of theatre, music, dance, visual arts and Film that we have developed. Our audiences have increased by more than 40%, of which approximately 60% are new to the venue. Our Creative Learning programmes continues to reach out to young people, adults and elders across Haringey and our commitment to supporting BAME artists remains steadfast.

All of this would not have been possible without the partnerships we have developed, across the cultural sector during Pete’s tenure. Over the last two years we’ve been delighted to work with organisations including LIFT, Punchdrunk, Hull UK City of Culture, The Champion Agency, Steppaz and Systems Lab to support a wide range of artists and commission new works.

Now after two years at the helm, Pete has decided that the time is right for him to move on and for the Bernie Grant Arts Centre to appoint a new Artistic Director to lead the organisation in the next phase of its exciting journey. The Board would like to thank Pete for all of his hard work over the last two years and wish him every success in the future.

– Dotun Adebayo, Chair of the Board of Trustees

The Bernie Grant Arts Centre now seeks to appoint a dynamic, inspiring and entrepreneurial Artistic Director to lead and shape the future of this extraordinary venue in Tottenham, North London.

Inspired by the vision of the late Bernie Grant MP and designed by Sir David Adjaye, the Bernie Grant Arts Centre opened 10 years ago. The purpose-built complex includes a 274 seat and fully equipped auditorium, multi-purpose studio spaces, a boutique cinema, a clustering of 20 enterprise units, and an award-winning café and bar.

The Artistic Director (AD) is the key leadership position at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre responsible for driving and communicating the artistic vision and direction of the Centre’s programmes. The AD will lead, develop and deliver the organisation’s core artistic programmes, associated creative learning and artists’ development activities.

The successful candidate will work with artists, partners, key stakeholders and the local community to secure the sustainable future of the organisation and the reputation of the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in supporting BAME artists and their work locally, nationally and internationally.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have a strong track record of artistic leadership and senior management in the arts, ideally in a cross-art form venue and certainly within a multi-cultural environment.

You will be a proven strategic, creative leader with vision, drive and an excellent business acumen. You will need to be a highly motivated, people-person with outstanding communication skills and a passion and commitment to promoting and celebrating cultural diversity in the arts.
