This French-language doc explores black identity and colonial history
Ouvrir La Voix (‘Speak Up’) is a documentary about black women, inspired by European colonial history in Africa and the Caribbean. The film centres on the experience of being a black woman and the cliches tied to those two indissoluble dimensions of identity, ‘woman’ and ‘black.’ It also examines questions concerning the intersection between discrimination, art, life’s many paths and the necessity of re-appropriating the narrative.
