Film Africa: Rafiki

7 November

Kena and Ziki must make a choice between happiness and safety in this tale of first love

“Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives”, but Kena and Ziki want more. As love blossoms between them, the girls must choose between happiness and safety. Brimming with Afropop aesthetics and the dreamy intimacy of first love, Kahiu’s sophomore feature – banned in its home country – is a rallying indictment against Kenya’s homophobic laws.
