The Summer Dance Festival is jam-packed with exciting performances, free events and family-friendly activities. On Thursday 3 August, we have an energetic night of Cuban music from Camina Banda plus a free dance workshop before the show. On Friday 4 August, we're looking forward to an afternoon of aerial theatre with Upswing, followed by an evening of jazz dance and music hosted by Bloom National Festival. And on Saturday 5 August, come down for an afternoon celebration of local talent with performances from Rebirth Network, the highly acclaimed Counterpoint Dance Company, Steppaz, and Aniko Solti's ballet students. Keeping the family-friendly vibe strong on Saturday, there will be a bouncy castle and face painting for children plus an outdoor market offering artisanal goods hosted by Tottenham Artisan Market. Six-piece band Camina Banda play traditional Cuban music with an energetic mix of timba and salsa on piano, bass, congas, trumpet, trombone and timbales. Having toured around the U.K. and Ireland and played at numerous summer festivals, they are regular guests at The Forge's legenday Cuban jam nights. Wherever they perform, they are guaranteed to light up the dance floor with the authentic sounds of Cuba. Come down and soak up some Caribbean flavour - a great start to your weekend!

Join leading aerial theatre company Upswing for an afternoon of thrilling free performances in the courtyard. Blending circus, dance, and gravity-defying acrobatics, this display of gymnastic daring is sure to leave you breathless and delighted. The performance will be followed by 'have a go' workshop where you'll be invited to try for yourself. Great for kids aged 7-17.
Please note, for anyone wishing to take part in the workshops, trousers or leggings are recommended as skirts are not practical for acrobatics.

An Evening of Jazz: Dance and Music
Friday 4 August, 7:30 pm
On Saturday 5th August from 12 - 6 pm, we'll be putting the spotlight on incredible local talent with performances as varied as hip hop and ballet, contemporary and street dance. Drop in for a drink or a bite to eat in our newly refurbished Café and Bar, watch some the afternoon's free performances and enjoy the long summer afternoon.
Rebirth Network are an East London-based group creating exciting new work that blends hip hop, contemporary, spoken word and dance theatre. Having performed with the likes of Rihanna, The X Files, BRIT Awards and more, they are guaranteed to put on a powerful show. Later in the year, Rebirth will be offering a dance course for young people at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre - a great opportunity for young people to hone their dance and performance skills. Counterpoint Dance Company gives older people the chance to express their creativity through dance, creating a vibrant new image of the older person by developing, sharing and promoting creative ideas by over-55s. Working with older people from Tottenham, they will be creating an exciting new piece to be shared with the public. The company is run under the artistic direction of Simona Scotto, rehearsal director and choreographer for Sadler’s Wells Company of Elders.
Our resident street dance crew at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Steppaz brings dance and drama classes to children and young people - and they put on a spectacular show. Come cheer on these spectacularly gifted youngsters as they show off their moves!
And Aniko's Dance Academy will give a beautiful performance in the courtyard led by ballerina and instructor Aniko Solti.
What's more, there will be an artisan market featuring handmade goods from the Tottenham Artisan Market plus a bouncy castle and face painting for the children. Also present will be the Time Truck, a roving exhibition space from the Museum of London Archaeology featuring a new exhibition, Street Space, featuring creative work put together by young people from the Borough of Haringey.
