Thu 3rd Nov 2016, 7pm
Dir. Alan Maglio, Medhin Paolos
Italy. 2015. 69 mins. Italian with English subtitles.
The Eritrean/Ethiopian community has been present in Italy for at least half century and has been actively integrated into social and cultural life. Collecting memories from the habesha community in Milan, Asmarina documents the legacy of personal stories, exploring the different shades of identity, migration, and the aspirations of the people. The result is a collective tale which brings to light a postcolonial heritage that has been little scrutinized until now: the everyday stories of those born in Italy, those who have lived there for years, and the refugees who have just arrived.
The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Medhin Paolos. This is a Dine & View event: Eritrean and Ethiopian food will be served and is included in the ticket price.
