The Bernie Grant Arts Centre is a unique venue based in Tottenham, north London and inspired by the vision of the late Bernie Grant MP. Designed by Sir David Adjaye, our purpose-built complex opened 10 years ago comprising a 274 seat and fully equipped auditorium, multi-purpose studio spaces, a boutique cinema, a clustering of 20 enterprise units, and an award-winning café and bar. The design of the complex intentionally lends itself to fusing and promoting the endeavours of artists, entrepreneurs and learners.
Our commitment was to reduce the bias in the arts world that had contributed to significant under-representation and the low progression of those of Black and minority ethnic heritage, those growing up in disadvantaged circumstances, and those without the connections to encourage, support and to build professional and career success.
Ten years on, our commitment remains steadfast, although the world we operate in is significantly different. We’ve grown to be part of the fabric of Tottenham, which itself is experiencing rapid change and growth.
Our reputation as a venue for supporting, promoting and showcasing works by emerging talent and experienced artists continues to grow, as does our collaborations within our communities and in the industry as a whole. There is still a lot to do and, ten years on, we now have many of the foundations in place to take us forward successfully for the next decade.
As our current Chair steps down, we are now looking to recruit a new chair and strengthen our board of trustees. To this end we are seeking committed, creative individuals, with a passion for promoting and celebrating cultural diversity in the arts to lead and shape the future of the organisation as Chair and Trustees.
We would be pleased to see applications from those who may have expertise and knowledge in some of the following areas – although this is not an exclusive list:
Arts and Culture
Catering and Hospitality
Communications and Marketing
Skills and training
Working with older people
Working with younger people
Knowledge of Haringey/Tottenham
